Head of School
Dr. Hasberry came to BASIS San Antonio Medical Center in August of 2013 as the School Director. Originally, she found BASIS as a parent looking for acceptable middle school alternatives for her middle child, Maya, who is now a ninth grader at BASIS San Antonio North Central. BASIS presented Abby with the opportunity to be on the forefront of educational change in San Antonio while using her skills as a former school teacher and school administrator. Abby jumped at the chance to be a part of the BASIS family.
When she was told that BASIS would be opening a second school in San Antonio in the fall of 2014, Dr. Hasberry knew that she was ready to transition to the Head of School role. She had been a part of the opening of the first Texas school, and is thrilled to use what she had learned to make BASIS San Antonio North Central the highest scoring school in Texas. Dr. Hasberry loves mentoring and supporting amazing teachers, serving incredible families, and fulfilling her professional goal of working to close the achievement gap between affluent students and students with a lower socioeconomic status.
Prior to BASIS, Dr. Hasberry has worked as a teacher and administrator for students of all ages, from infants to college coeds. She holds a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, a Master of Arts in Teaching (K-12), and Bachelor of Arts in African American studies and sociology. Dr. Hasberry was an Air Force spouse to a former JAG officer, with her husband recently retiring and now practicing law as a civilian on Randolph Air Force Base. Dr. Hasberry has lived and traveled all over the world to include Europe, Japan, Africa, and the Caribbean.
